The Stony Creek Backwash marks the end of a journey for Stony Creek; here it flows into the Yarra River under the soaring arches of the West Gate Bridge. The intertidal mud flats of Stony Creek Backwash are fringed by mangroves and salt marsh which are havens for waterbirds. Industry-first began in the 1850's.
